Dear Liberals

Get your act together. If you want to continue the coalition, fine. If you have a better way to get the economy on track and want to make a separate deal with el presidente, fine (I won't be happy, but hey that is the nature of parliamentary democracy). Either way, make up your freaking minds and fast. Your coalition partner deserves that much consideration, at least.

Late Sunday Update: I doubt it had anything to do with my whining, but it looks like the Liberals are about to make their leadership race a sprint rather than a marathon. It may or may not have an impact on the coalition. That is for Liberals to decide. I am just glad they seem ("seem" is the operative word at this point) to be getting it together.

  1. I was going to say, "You think it is easy to make a decision?", but it was easy for Dion to make that call.

I don't think that you'll get a quick decision -- they seem to be split on this one. Rae and the caucus want to take down Harper ASAP, whereas Ignatieff and many of his people (who included most of the caucus) want to put off the fight till next year (i.e. 2010).

  2. I think the only way an election can be held off until 2010 is if Harper suddenly becomes Mother Teresa (or the Liberals can start rolling over again, or as I say, the Liberals can make their own deal with Harper).

  3. I'm feeling some music coming on ....

"Say you will, say you won't...
    Make up your mind tonight!
Say you do, say you don't
    Wanna be mine.

  4. Personally, I think the Scissor Sisters would be a more appropriate pick for this occasion:

  5. Also, Greg, if you remember, the theme song for "The Night Girl". ;-)

  6. Greg -- I think they've decided.

    Iggy's in.

Coalition government or election in March.

  8. Nothing your precious NDP or Liberals do will "get the economy on track" It isn't a bicycle chain that Uncle Jack can put back on.

  9. Well Greg, you wanted an answer. :p

I think that the response is, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!"

Which means that someone is going to come to grief.

But why be dull? Why not have a knock-down, drag-'em-out fight now? There are real differences to settle.

It's more like a series of tubes. ;P

  11. Wait again. I recant.

Ignatieff is now saying, "a coalition if necessary, but not necessarily a coalition."

    Seriously.

    He's a pistol.

  13. Brilliant political play by Bob Rae -- Ignatieff looks like a total tool. The man simply can't keep his mind set from one day to the next.

Paul Martin looks positively decisive, in retrospect.

  14. I guess I have to take back what I said above.

Ig still is Martinesque, but in the ruthless-within-party sense.

He played Rae -- let Rae take tactical victories while inflicting a strategic defeat.

  15. You're just upset that Jack's coalition isn't going to fly because Ignatieff doesn't need a monkey for a co-pilot. He will be taking Harper down, and helping Canadians with the economy, on his own.

  16. I am not in the least upset, Anonymous. If Iggy thinks he can bring down Harper by himself, good luck to him. I think that is a delusion, given the party is broke, but hey, he wouldn't be the first delusional politician in Ottawa.
