Living the Vida One Percent

The PM dropped $45,000.00 on a trip to New York on Labor Day. The PMO thinks it's cool to justify it by saying he reimbursed the treasury. But is it really? Do you have 45k to drop on a weekend trip to New York? The PM is paid well, but 45k on a weekend to New York well? If he does have that kind of discretionary cash on hand, it is no wonder he is out of touch with the realities facing the rest of us. If he had help from friends to raise the cash necessary for the trip, I think we deserve to know who they were and what they expect in return.

Update:Ok, now I see. Harper reimbursed the treasury only for commercial airfare to New York and you and I get to pick up the rest of the tab. It must be nice being the king.

Update 2: Even dropping 11k plus commercial airfare for one weekend is out of reach of most of us. It gives us more perspective on Harper's 1 billion dollar G8 weekend, doesn't it?
Update 3: Justin Trudeau calls the story "garbage" on Twitter, but he is of course an entitled one percenter himself. Born and raised.

Dear Peasants

The latest missive from King Stephen's court:
“As the Prime Minister is prohibited from flying commercial for security reasons, he will compensate the government for the cost of an equivalent commercial flight to Boston,” Thursday’s note from the PMO says. “Minister Moore will do the same.”
There now, don't feel guilty? The PM is going to pay roughly $5200.00 for himself and his princess. So, go plow the fields and tend the sheep and feel happy that you have such a benevolent ruler. Don't listen to the lies that the cost of the flight was much much more than that. Your king loves you and the troops and the hockey troops. God bless Canada.

Entitled To His Entitlements

Wow, Harper has had a majority less than a month and he is already jet-setting. Wait until year four. He will be eating jello out of the navels of virgins! And what is all this crap about not "being allowed" to take commercial jets? I thought he was the one making the rules. Tell him to watch the damn thing on TV like the rest of us.

Update: How's this for logic:
The PMO also pointed out the expense for taxpayers of an Ottawa/Boston roundtrip on a Challenger jet is much lower than it would have cost for an Ottawa/Vancouver flight for Game 5 on Friday.
Be happy we didn't soak you for more! Bloody peasants!

Greg's Crystal Ball

Prorogation has not worked out very well for the government. They are going to face a possible vote on censure, in the next week or so, on the Afghanistan torture files. To avoid this fate, if I was Harper (which thank God, I am not, ekkk), I would have one of my minions announce a Royal Commission some time this weekend. Then I would take about seven months setting the terms and getting that puppy up and running. Then I would go to court to stop the Royal Commission from seeing anything I didn't want it to see. By the time it cleared the courts, the next election will have come and gone, in which case, I would either still be king of Canada, or collecting a fat paycheck from an American think tank.

Olympic Quote Of The Day

Damien Cox, in describing the close game last night, wrote:
The resulting continuity and cohesiveness almost helped the Swiss overcome Canadian size and talent for the second straight Olympics. Stephen Harper might have even had to restore our democratic institutions if that had happened at Canada Hockey House on Thursday.
One unlikely event deserves another, I suppose.

The Finer Things

It is good to know that Stephen Harper is taking time out from his "recalibration" to enjoy the finer things of life -- things like drinking gold-infused liqueurs with pop stars at his private retreat. I must look for Goldschlager on the menu at Tim Hortons. If the PM drinks it, it must be there, right?

Stephen Harper, Man Of Certainty

From today's Globe:
“Love him or hate him, our Prime Minister knows where he stands on the issues and will offer Canadians certainty,” a senior Tory official said.
Certainty? Ya, like when the election is going to be? Or perhaps the certainty that he will make promises he has no intention of keeping (income trusts anyone?)? Yes, the man fills me with certainty.

Linda Keen Fired

The third worldization of Canada continues apace. Linda Keen was fired in the dead of night. I guess she should just count herself lucky that she wasn't "disappeared". I hope taxpayers are ready to pay out big time, cuz we are going to be sued. Psycho Steve and the Gang That Can't Shoot Straight have outstayed their welcome. Time for them to go.

Update: If Kady O'Malley's scenario plays out, this could get ugly. If we were anyone other than Canadians, riots in the streets ugly. Revolution ugly. As it is, I would say the government's days are numbered in the low two digits.

An Exerpt From Stephen Harper's Diary

January 8, 2008. Thank God the House is not in session. Never mind. When I am appointed Maximum Supreme God-Head, things will be different.

Update: Ms. Keen has some steel in her spine. I suspect the Conservatives have just invited God's wrath upon themselves. Good.

Update 2: I suspect the PMO is calling all over town looking for advice about how they can go about shutting down this web site.
