It always begins "I am just a simple "insert favorite prosaic profession here"", and then proceeds to rail against "the elites" and (in this case) against "coercion" as a method for cooperating on the census. It is funny how these working class heroes never rail against the owners of the country, nor for the abolition of coercive laws against drug possession or trespassing, isn't it? Perhaps the state should pay me not to take drugs and to not make myself comfortable in my neighbor's living room, too. Really, this is just more crap from the endless manure conveyor belt that is the modern conservative movement. Sadly, there seems to be a willingly stupid 30% of the population that eats this shit with a spoon.

A Set Up For A Joke I Must Resist

Ladies and gentlemen, Candice Hoeppner:

MP Candice Hoeppner, the Conservative MP who sponsored a private members' bill calling for a repeal of the gun registry, said in an interview that the registry should be scrapped because it is does not ensure officer safety and is "not reliable."

"Do you know the long gun registry has actually been breached over 300 times, by computer hackers," Hoeppner said.

Asked to verify the claim, RCMP Sgt. Greg Cox responded in an earlier email that Hoeppner's number is wrong.

"The RCMP Canadian Firearms Program's national registry database has never been breached by hackers. The RCMP does not know where this information has come from."

I won't add anything more, but you all may feel free to speculate from which bodily orifice, Ms. Hoeppner pulled "this information".

As a side note. With intellectual firepower like Ms. Hoeppner's pulling for the gutting of the long gun registry, is it any wonder the NDP and Liberals are quaking with fear?

Harper Wanted Layton To Be PM In 2004

According to Pierre Poilievre:

Poilievre rejected suggestions by the NDP that its co-operation with the Bloc was no different than what Conservatives did in 2004. At the time, opposition parties wrote then-Gov. Gen. Adrienne Clarkson noting she could be asked to dissolve Parliament should the Commons defeat the Liberal minority government.

"We respectfully point out that the opposition parties, who together constitute a majority in the House, have been in close consultation," says the Sept. 9, 2004, letter signed by Harper, Duceppe and Layton.

"We believe that, should a request for dissolution arise, this should give you cause, as constitutional practice has determined, to consult the opposition leaders and consider all of your options before exercising your constitutional authority."

Poilievre said the situation is not the same.

"The word 'coalition' never appeared," he said. "It never suggested in the letter that … then opposition leader Harper would become prime minister.

"All it said is that opposition leaders who represent the majority of the House should be consulted before the dissolution of Parliament.

"You can look through all the records, and you will find that Stephen Harper has never even … remotely entertained a coalition with the BQ. " (emphasis mine)

So, if the Tories never wanted a coalition with the Bloc and Harper did not want to be PM, the only logical conclusion is the Harper wanted Layton to become PM in 2004. Who knew?

We Are Being Governed By Thugs

What can one say about a government that has so little of substance on offer that it can spend most of its time smearing decorated retired generals and other assorted enemies? I am at a loss for words really. This is truly the worst government in the history of the country. Coincidentally, key people surrounding the previous "winner" of the worst government in the history of the country are prominent members of our latest "winner".

Update: Meanwhile, as the government amused itself by attacking yet another enemy, the real world moves on. It turns out that Steve's estimate for military spending was only off by $20 billion (and I think that $20 billion will turn into $30 or $40 billion over time). A question for any MSM readers of this blog. How is it that the Tories have a free ride when it comes to "managerial skill"? In my opinion these guys couldn't run a two hole shitter, let alone a government.

Test Driving Talking Points

The Tories realize that if soldiers are killed during a spring election, the consequences for the government could be dire. Voters might turn against the extension of the mission (more so than they already have) and against the one party that advocates an indefinite extension. So, they are test driving a new talking point. I saw it presented this morning in John Ivison's column:

But there are good reasons not to provoke an election over Afghanistan. As the Dutch reviewed their contribution to NATO's force in Uruzgan province last year, there was a sharp increase in violence -- between mid-June and mid-January, the Dutch army suffered all but one of its nine combat deaths.

Earlier this week, the Canadian military was reluctant to reveal how many bullets it has used in Afghanistan because it knows the Taliban reads the Canadian press. An election that centred on this issue would re-energize the Taliban's fanatical zeal, if they figured out that with a rush and push they could help elect a Liberal Party that is campaigning to exchange swords for ploughshares.

Get it? If there is an election, (against the wishes of the government of course despite manufactured confidence motions), any soldiers who die during the course of said election will be on the heads of the opposition. Watch for this meme to become popular amongst the BT's as things progress.

Hubris In Conservativeland

The arrogance behind this posting is the reason why the Conservative Party will never form a majority. I mean, there are only so many smirking, frat-boy-men out there for whom this message would have an appeal and they already vote Conservative. It must be a terrible thing to know that your party has so little appeal on its own that it needs vote splitting to even have a shot at power. No wonder so many Conservatives are bitter and twisted individuals. I would feel sorry for them, but they spend so much time feeling sorry for themselves that it is waste of time.

His Psychotic Majesty was in Quebec, campaigning for the by elections today and he said this (around the 4:20 mark).

"And by the way my friends, I would like to remark that the chief of the Bloc is traveling through Quebec these days. But everywhere he goes, remember he always has empty hands."

So remember kids, elect Tories or no federal cash for you. People in BC shouldn't feel too special, the Harper government is telling the same story all over the country.
