Of Vacations And Bomb Throwers
With apologies to Karina Roman's delicate sensibilities, Prime Ministers who gut the Census and impair the functioning of the Canadian state, do not get a free pass to whoop it up a the cottage. Harper is an employee of the Canadian people, and not their king. He should as a matter of course, make himself available to explain himself. Sending out his trained monkey is no substitute for hearing it from the organ grinder.
One might incorrectly conclude that Harper is afraid to show himself. If he were human, one might think him a little embarrassed by the havoc he has caused. Fortunately, Mr. Harper is not human and so is not plagued by human emotions, save one, arrogance. The simple fact is, Harper does not care what we think and has no intention of voluntarily explaining himself to anyone. If he is to be flushed out of hiding, we must keep up the pressure. Iggy Needs To Apologize Immediately
To Stephen Harper and all of his followers. To compare Stephen Harper to the Devil, is a flat out insult. Satan is only the Prince of Lies, Stephen Harper is the King. H/t to Jeff Jedras.

Oh, That's Why
Stephen Harper tells the world why he would never be involved in a coalition: "Losers don't get to form coalitions." And here I thought it was because he was a sociopathic asshole. You learn something new every day.
Update: As someone else has pointed out, it is a good thing Harper did not condemn Coalitions of Losers the other day when his buddy Netanyahu was in town. Bad manners and all that. Recommend this Post

Quote Of The Day
Andrew Coyne:
I recognize that Parliament always retains the ultimate sanction of voting no confidence in the government — or at least, on those days that the government will allow it to do so, or deigns to bring forward legislation, or recognizes confidence votes when they occur (see Paul Martin, above). But this is a very blunt instrument. It shouldn’t have to take a vote of non-confidence to get the government to obey basic norms of accountability.Sadly, Mr. Harper has left the opposition with one option only and that is a vote of confidence. It is the stick with which he and his cronies whack the opposition, even as they move to circumvent the will of Parliament. The only way this will stop is for the opposition to unite to call Mr. Harper's bluff and defeat him. I hope when the time comes, Mr. Coyne does not fall for the "another useless election" meme, we all know is coming from the Conservative attack machine. Defending the constitution from the likes of Stephen Harper is a good hill on which to die. Recommend this Post

The Last Refuge Of A Sociopath
Shorter Harper: Dearest men and women in uniform. If you remember nothing else from your time in uniform, remember this. Only the Republican Party Conservative Party loves you and understands you. Conservatives and the military are two parts of one organic unit, like the brain and arm of a single body. So, even though no one in the opposition parties has even hinted you were involved with torture, they have accused us of turning a blind eye. And in accusing us, they are accusing you. It is that simple. So remember. Conservatives. Body. Love. Opposition. Traitors. Hate.

Rome On The Rideau?
I must say, I have been waiting for Coyne to arise from his slumber and smite the loons in Ottawa. I have not been disappointed. Never get in the bad books of a libertarian with a pen. He writes, on the occasion of Harper's latest Senate appointments :
I suppose you can mount some sort of chess-playing rationale for Harper’s latest descent: he had to appoint somebody — might as well be people whose loyalty he can depend upon; with a majority in the Senate as early as next year, he’ll be in a better position to pass Senate reform; if he’d appointed respectable, upstanding pillars-of-the-community types, the kind with cross-party support, he’d simply be rehabilitating the status quo. So you see, by appointing egregious partisan hacks, he’s actually still a reformer.Mr. Coyne, is of course, referring to the infamous incident in which the mad Emperor Caligula named his favorite horse as a Senator. I think it an apt comparison, although I think it does do a bit of an injustice to Caligula. Recommend this Post
But if that’s his strategy, why be so timid about it? Why not appoint his horse? Or convicted criminals? Colin Thatcher to the Senate!(emphasis mine)

Of Sociopaths And Prime Ministers
Chris Selley says a mouthful in his April 4 piece on the bizarre case of Abousfian Abdelrazik:
What the hell is going on here? The idea that Foreign Affairs is digging in its heels simply to avoid being seen to back down implies a lack of foresight and a level of sociopathy that I’m not willing to ascribe to Cannon, or to most cabinet ministers for that matter. (emphasis mine)Note he says "most cabinet ministers" and not "all". Since I am on record as stating that I firmly and sincerly believe our PM is a sociopath, I have nothing further to add. It is nice however, that others are beginning to point out the fucking obvious. Thanks to Dr. Dawg for the heads up. Recommend this Post

Ballot Question 2
Which party and leader understands the economic situation at the ground level?
My own question. Why is Stephen Harper smiling? He looks positively giddy at the prospect of profiting from people losing their retirement savings. Recommend this Post

I Knew Harper Was An Economist
But who knew he was so economical with the truth? Paul Wells points us in the direction of Greg Weston, who provides us with another example of Mr. Harper denying the existence of a deal -- until reality (and the courts) forced the issue.

Linda Keen Fired
The third worldization of Canada continues apace. Linda Keen was fired in the dead of night. I guess she should just count herself lucky that she wasn't "disappeared". I hope taxpayers are ready to pay out big time, cuz we are going to be sued. Psycho Steve and the Gang That Can't Shoot Straight have outstayed their welcome. Time for them to go.
Update: If Kady O'Malley's scenario plays out, this could get ugly. If we were anyone other than Canadians, riots in the streets ugly. Revolution ugly. As it is, I would say the government's days are numbered in the low two digits. Recommend this Post

Steve's Cannon Fodder
For those following the Helena Guergis fiasco and are not yet convinced this was a put up job by the PMO, I give you "Exhibit A". John Ivison yesterday, writing on another Tory fiasco, the Gary Lunn/Linda Keen contretemps.
The Minister of Natural Resources hasn't been seen in public since before Christmas, except by one alert letter-to-the-editor writer who spotted him in a Canadian Tire store in Vancouver. This is the way this government works. The PMO comes up with a "brilliant" strategy, writes it out and then shoves a hapless Minister out on stage to deliver pre-scripted attacks on the enemy of the day. Then when things go south, the PMO hides in its bunker while the Minister (Lunn one day, Guergis the next) gets grenades lobbed at them. Harper and the thugs who surround him see everyone in government, even his senior ministers, as expendable assets in their unending war on anyone who challenges the absolute authority of Stephen Harper. Recommend this Post
No wonder he's made himself scarce. Who'd want to be hauled in front of a parliamentary committee and asked awkward questions such as: "Minister, did you really write that letter to nuclear regulator Linda Keen asking her to give one good reason why she shouldn't be fired, or was it penned by someone in the Prime Minister's Office, who told you to sign your name to it on pain of political death?"
We are reliably informed that's what happened. Mr. Lunn has been widely condemned for making Ms. Keen, president of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, the scapegoat in this whole affair. But it's possible that the Minister is the fall guy for a caper dreamt up in the Prime Minister's Office.

Thank God For Kady O'Malley
She is making me believe in the MSM again. Now, everyone knows I think that the Conservative government is made up of thugs, liars and psychopaths. It is fair to say that I also now believe that the opposition is composed of idiots, who are so afraid of offending the lunatic fringe in Quebec, that they will follow Harper's thugs off the nearest cliff.

More BC Reaction To Dirty Dick's Power Play
From today's Victoria Times Colonist, in an editorial about the appointment of Sharon Smith as the "go to person" in Nathan Cullen's riding:
This (the appointment of Sharon Smith -- ed) is wrong on a number of levels, but most offensive because it suggests that the Conservatives have decided to punish or ignore Canadians who chose to elect a member of Parliament from another party, and have succeeded in politicizing the public service to ensure that happens. The editorial gets the tone just right. His psychotic majesty would be right at home in the North Korean Communist Party. Recommend this Post
The people of Skeena should not have to go to anyone other than their elected MP with their concerns. And Harris, as B.C. caucus chair, should not be suggesting public concerns will be ignored unless they are raised by a Conservative.
Even the suggestion that a riding has to be represented by someone from the ruling party to have any hope of getting access to government is a dismal political stunt.
The unilateral appointment of an unelected representative is something that happens in North Korea, not northern B.C.
The Conservatives should recognize the folly of their actions, cancel the appointment immediately and apologize to the voters of Skeena.

Stephen Harper Can't Possibly Get It
Everyone knows that I think Stephen Harper is a psychopath, who seems to think that the state exists only as an extension of his will. While others won't go that far, the realization that Harper believes that all state apparatus should follow his script, without question (even to the point of breaking the law), is starting to dawn on the MSM.
Harper seems to be saying the law is an ass and we're going to get the wheat board out of barley marketing by hook or by crook. This shows Harper's clear contempt for the law, if the law doesn't happen to conform to his world-view.Guys like Harper are poison in any organization. Sane Tories had better get rid of this guy, before he destroys their party. Recommend this Post

The Incredible Shrinking Caucus
One, by one, the Tory caucus gets smaller by the day. If this keeps up Dion may become Prime Minister without the benefit of an election. Way to go Psycho Steve. For the benefit of the few Tories still held captive in caucus, you should probably pick this up at your local book selling establishment. It will explain just who and what you are dealing with here.
