Interesting Coincidence In Timing

Harper promises the premiers that he will hold a summit in the fall, on "Native Issues". That is a coincidence, I thought we might have an election in the fall. Could it be our PM is using natives as a human shield against those slimy bastards in the Liberal Party? Nah, that couldn't be. He would never stoop to the level of pointing a finger at the Liberals and shouting "Kelowna? You killed native issues for years by bringing on this fall election." Our PM has too much class to do that. Besides, the Liberals have spines of steel and would never give in to that kind of pressure, would they?

Nice Words Everyone

I hate to be a wet blanket, but talk is cheap (literally). It was easy for our parliamentarians to unite behind an apology because it cost nothing and made them feel good about themselves. Fine, now what? Unless Canada has the will to really address the third world conditions our native citizens endure, every day, then all the apologies in the world are just so much hot air. Results matter more than sentiment.

Captain Tubby And Native Rights

The government convened the aboriginal affairs committee today. The official reason was to help the government pass legislation to extend human rights to natives. However, no one believes this to be the real reason. The government knew in advance they were outvoted and none of the opposition parties were going to change its votes. So, why did they waste everyone's time? Good question. One that the papers are already chewing on:
