Panic Grips The PMO

Realizing that prorogation was the worst political mistake since Pierre Trudeau handed John Turner a list of his friends to find jobs for, the PMO is starting to throw furniture out the windows, in a vain attempt to get the Langevin Block to levitate. You can almost hear them screaming "Hey Canadians, you don't like prorogation? What if we never take a break again? Would you like us better? Huh? Huh?" And still, the long, sad, decline in their fortunes continue.

Dear Psycho Steve

If you think your poll numbers in Ontario are bad now, just wait. And in related news, if Tony Clement keeps opening his trap about being willing to let the auto sector in Ontario collapse (and it happens), you guys will be finished in Ontario for generations. It will be Ontario's NEP and your party will be radioactive. Just a friendly warning.

The Next Week Is Going To Be Fascinating

A new poll suggests the Conservatives are sliding further away from majority territory while the NDP are closing in on second in the wake of the two leaders debates.
From the Globe and Mail.

Update:For example, expect to see more like this, in the coming days. I almost feel sorry for Liberals. It's like they are living my life, four years ago. Strategic voting is evil and needs to be ended once and for all.

Update 2: My God, the Liberals' internal numbers must be showing free fall, if they are pulling out these old chestnuts. Dion will be calling Layton "Red Jack" by the end of next week.

Nanos Speaks

I listen. Ontario is going to screw over Psycho Steve. I predict he and his flying monkeys will not take that well.

Almost Instant Update: With numbers like this, the Tories have no choice but to run the dirtiest, screw-the-Elections Act, election campaign in history. It will make the Mulroney "Bomb The Bridge Strategy" of 1988 look like a tea party.

Nik Na Knows

For those of you who love to look at every poll out there -- except the only one that matters, I present this as a public service. It shows what we all know. The Tories aren't rising above their base levels because they cater to that group exclusively, the Liberals can't get a clue because they have a weak leader who is easily manipulated by the blue wing of the party and the NDP can't buy a break because "they can't win".

The Fog Is Clearing

At last some real poll numbers. Nick Nanos please do more polls. This could explain why the Tories are eager to go now. There seems to be a "It's now or never" vibe coming from the government side. And for all those in the blogosphere who have posted obituaries for the NDP, take a look at their numbers (and remember these are real numbers by a real pollster).

At Last The Fog Clears

After, what seems likes dozens of BS polls, comes one from the only polling firm I trust. The numbers are about what I thought. I wonder if Jason will highlight the NDP numbers in this one?

Note To Progressives Who Vote Liberal

Read this poll. The second choice of 55% of your party is the CPC. Think about that. Also, as a general side note. Has anyone else noticed a subtle shift in the coverage of these polls by the MSM? It has only been in the last little while that getting 33% of the vote is being reported as "momentum" or a "surge". Anyone care to speculate as to why this is happening?

Polls Mania

As if to prove that comment technology is not infallible, my comment over at Greg Staples place seems to have bee lost in the shuffle. I think the poll is a pretty accurate snapshot of where we are at the moment. It is hardly surprising that the government is up a few points. It has had the stage entirely to itself for a couple of months, with no pesky question period and the keys to the cash box are entirely in its hands. What is surprising and should be troubling to conservatives is we are almost exactly where we were on election day 18 months ago. One would think that with all of the advantages of government and no daily opposition, the government would be higher in the polls, not bumping up against that 36% ceiling (and it is certainly starting to look like a ceiling).
