Being a geek, I see all things in terms of Star Trek. Harper's "Aw shucks" routine is being stripped away and his evil, lying just beneath the surface, is becoming obvious to everyone. It is very much like the Star Trek episode "And the Children Shall Lead", in which the "Friendly Angel" is exposed for the evil monster he truly is.
