While bankers have publicly looted the country's wealth and got away with it, it's not hard to see why those who are locked out of the gravy train might think they were entitled to help themselves to a mobile phone. Some of the rioters make the connection explicitly. "The politicians say that we loot and rob, they are the original gangsters," one told a reporter. Another explained to the BBC: "We're showing the rich people we can do what we want."Recommend this Post

QOTD: The Real Gravy Train
From the Guardian on the riots (read the whole thing, it is worth it):

Attention Americans
These people are going after the real villains of the crash. They are the real Tea Party, not the Koch Kommandos.

BBC Double Think
From a BBC report on Greece today:
The majority of the Greek people are unconvinced by a plan dictated by outsiders. In almost every conversation I have had on the streets the same view emerges: Greeks believe the bankers caused the crisis and that they, the ordinary people, are picking up the bill. The narrative may be flawed, but it won't easily disappear. The idea that the world economic crisis was caused by the banks is, of course absurd. In other news Oceana continues to do well in its war against East Asia. Recommend this Post

If Only Caning Was An Available Remedy
Cane all bankers. Cane them, I say:
Before the bank bust, Ireland had little public debt. But with taxpayers suddenly on the hook for gigantic bank losses, even as revenues plunged, the nation’s creditworthiness was put in doubt. So Ireland tried to reassure the markets with a harsh program of spending cuts. Then castrate them and send them to prison. They are a plague upon the nations. Recommend this Post
Step back for a minute and think about that. These debts were incurred, not to pay for public programs, but by private wheeler-dealers seeking nothing but their own profit. Yet ordinary Irish citizens are now bearing the burden of those debts.
Or to be more accurate, they’re bearing a burden much larger than the debt — because those spending cuts have caused a severe recession so that in addition to taking on the banks’ debts, the Irish are suffering from plunging incomes and high unemployment.

Let Them Eat Bedpans
Tell me again, what is the difference between Liberals and Conservatives?
“Our interest is to ensure the taxpayers aren’t paying any more and they won’t,” he [McGuinty] said in Hamilton.Nurses are supposed to work for free (and if not, patients must suffer), but bankers can continue to count on Mr. McGuinty and the Liberal/Conservative Party to support their high class lifestyle. “We’ve made that commitment already.”
Asked if that means the hospitals might have to close beds or cut other services to make up for the wage settlement, McGuinty said that’s up to them and their workers to figure out.

Revolution Wanted
Seriously, if I was an American, I wouldn't rest until every one of these motherfuckers was in jail for life. A real revolution is needed down there and not that clown show known as the Tea Party. It may come as early as January, when the poor folks putting their faith in that movement discover they have been sold another worthless piece of junk.

I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing
Pogge points to a CBC report indicating that BMO is urging caution when it comes to ending stimulus spending. The story includes this:
To support its arguments, the bank tried to dispel what it calls myths about spending, including that bond markets are worried about high borrowing by governments. The fools, making logical arguments with facts and statistics. Don't they realize that facts and statistics are meaningless when weighed against the gut feelings and divinations of Stephen Harper? Recommend this Post
That would usually be indicated by high interest rates as lenders priced in the higher risk of default.
But BMO said most government bond markets are showing no such concern this year.
"Quite the contrary," said the report's author, and the Bank's deputy chief economist, Douglas Porter.
"Ten-year U.S. treasury yields have recently dropped to their lowest level since April 2009, when the economy was still mired in recession and losing more than 600,000 private sector jobs per month," he said.

I Have Two Words For The Banks
And they aren't "Merry Christmas". More proof that these blood sucking bastards are completely divorced from reality. These vampires are lucky the peasants aren't at their doors with pitchforks and torches.
