Can You Smell The Panic?
The Tories released their platform amid polls suggesting they are losing support in central Canada. Did they stand behind their principles and give the finger to those cheese-eating cultural types, especially in Quebec? They did not. They folded like a cheap umbrella. I suspect it is too little, too late. Duceppe will claim (correctly) that this is a desperate move from a desperate party and that Harper can't be trusted to keep his word (and I am sure Danny Williams is on his speed dial for back up). Flip flopping in the last week is seldom a wise move.

Well, I'm only going by the Globe report, so take that with a grain of salt, but...
ReplyDeleteThe platform seems weak, and rushed, like they didn't have a lot of time to put it together, and not much money to make major promises. There's some good stuff there, but that good stuff isn't much different than the goodies offered by the other parties. I suspect, if the opposition plays their cards right, this platform announcement will amount to a fizzle.

What else could it be? I can't see anyone getting all that enthusiastic about such a platform since it either (a) reconfirms past stands or (b) flip flops on previous ones (see film/TV tax credits).
ReplyDeleteThe platform is certainly too little - it's very likely too late. Plus, given continued bleeding on Wall and Bay Streets today, I don't see it getting the sort of coverage it would have received had it been released, say, the day after the Liberal platform.
