As the Nanos poll found, there’s no mystery in a partial fix. Canadians want MPs freed to vote more often as they believe, not as leaders and unelected advisers dictate. You may just get it. Massive ad campaigns aimed at "resistant" MP's, based on massive fund-raising, fueled by lobby groups and propaganda? No thanks. I have seen this movie and it stinks. Recommend this Post

I want it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why anyone on your side of the aisle would, though.
If people think our system is dysfunctional, take a look at Congress. And I know dysfunction is a feature rather than a bug, on your side of the aisle. ;p
ReplyDeleteThe more we move away from party discipline to votes on issues and popular pressure, the more I like it.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, it might well help the NDP, vis-a-vis the Liberals -- moderates tend to get whipsawed in that environment.
But yes, absolutely, I want it to be difficult to legislate. Give me an elected Senate that's broken out by region -- make it even tougher to legislate, and regionalism favours the Tories.
