Hey Here Is A Surprise

Iggy is going to spend his summer telling rural Canada he is just as blue as Stephen Harper. Of course Liberal progressives will eat it up with a spoon.

  1. I enjoy bashing Ignatieff as much as the next man, but what would you have him do? He has to win seats somewhere...

(Here's my diagnosis of the underlying problem -- he suffers from what John Tory suffered from in Ontario: social ties put him in the wrong party, philosophically. Tory's a natural Liberal; Ignatieff's a natural Conservative. Neither man has enough self-awareness to figure it out.)

  2. I just want a political system that reflects the reality of the country, not one that is stuck in the 19th century. Canada is not a rural country any more, and our system should reflect that. It is pathetic that our system is skewed to reward an ever shrinking, older, and less demographically representative population with more and more political clout. It is even more pathetic that there is no politician out there, in any party, willing to put power aside and call bullshit on the whole craziness of it. I want an urban party that will fight for the interests of the majority of us who live in cities.

  3. You have my advice already on that -- a twenty word long constitutional amendment re a census every decade and reapportionment by rep-by-pop.

The simpler the language, the better.

  4. The problem is with the parties. None are willing to go there. The risk is greater than the reward.

Iggy's wasting his time--the tories and dippers have it over him in rural Canada with their pro-gun stances.

  6. If only there were a major party whose caucus overwhelmingly came from dense urban areas -- the three major cities of Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, say.

    Hey, wait a second...

  7. If only that party wasn't trying to win over rural voters by selling out urban voters (long guns, cough, cough).

  8. I meant the Grits... Your guys have more than seven seats west of London, Ontario.
