Pounding The Table

There is an old axiom among legalistas that goes:
“If the law is on your side, pound on the law. If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If neither is on your side, pound on the table.”
I guess this is Stephen Harper, pounding the table.

  1. Sounds like a move out of the Conrad Black playbook.

  2. Sorry, Fester--I didn't read your label. I guess small minds think alike.

  3. Well, may Harper have all the same success and luck as Lord Black as he's led to the Tower.

Incidentally, threatening a lawsuit is the last thing Harper should be doing. From a purely political perspective, it's about as smart as Martin's calling of the Gomery Inquiry. If the lawsuit goes ahead, it will keep this story in the news, and one might say that all publicity is good publicity, in the sense that it ensures that no one forgets about it.

Of course, if the lawsuit is withdrawn will have been pointless. But if it proceeds, the spectacle won't be altogether worth it for the government.
