A City Boy's Thoughts On Killing The Wheat Board

Farmers of the prairies, I understand your pain. It isn't easy to have a government go against your wishes and ram through legislation you don't want. I understand that. What I don't understand is why you voted en masse for the Conservative Party. Did you think they were kidding all these years when they said that they would kill the Wheat Board if they ever got a majority? Who is laughing now, eh?

Well, life's a bitch. Water under the bridge and all that. Just one more thing. If you expect urban Canadians to bail you out once you are in the clutches of ADM et. al., well, we have other priorities and money is tight. You understand I am sure. Have a nice day.

Let Freedom Ring

Good news for farmers and the Wheat Board. Cue the "Damn activist judges" from the minor league Republicans, in three, two, one. Hat tip to Buckdog.

Update: More info here.

Update 2: STEPHEN ANGRY! STEPHEN SMASH!:
“The bottom line is this, mark my words,” Harper said. “Western Canadian farmers want this freedom and they are going to get it and anybody who stands in their way is going to get walked over.”
Our Prime Minister, what a class act.

Harper's Cunning Plan

I may have underestimated Psycho Steve. I now suspect he has a plan to fire every civil servant in his path, without cause, in a effort to bankrupt the government in an avalanche of wrongful dismissal lawsuits. H/T to the Jurist.

Instant Update: Given the Harperistas track record over the past little while, how many of you out there believe the following sentence?
A spokesman for Mr. Ritz said he was unaware of Ms. Allen's departure, and said Mr. Ritz would have no comment.

Quote Of The Day

From the Regina Leader-Post:
When a judge flattened his prize "crop" this week, federal Agriculture Minister Chuck Strahl seemed as surprised as a city slicker watching the hail batter his hobby farm.
Funny, isn't it, that no one but Chuck Strahl and the usual suspects are even mildly shocked by the results?

Yippee

Let's hear it for Prairie Farmer Survival Day! Chuck may be "surprised" by the ruling (Goddamn liberal activist judges), but when you don't follow the law and make policy on the fly, bad things are bound to happen to you. I realize the psychotic bastard he works for is probably going to beat Chuck to death for his failure to bend the system to his will, but Chuck should see this for what it is, a good day for justice in Canada.
