The Harperites Faked A Climate Change Report You Say?

I'm shocked, shocked! Not really. In fact I would have been shocked if they told the truth. Cats are cats and sociopaths are sociopaths

There Is An Old Saying

I just made up: If you have no plans to govern, you might as well just fuck around. That is Harper's moto. This latest move has nothing to do with actual Senate reform (to say nothing of climate change). This is all about sticking it to the opposition, so the braying morons at the Blogging Tories can throw feces around, for a while. The geniuses at the PMO are up to their usual frat-boy stunts. *

*With apologies to frat-boys, who are mature in comparison to the motherfuckers at the PMO.

Look A Shiny Thing

Well, at least this got Jack Layton to shut up about Afghanistan, for a few minutes. I am sure it is just a coincidence.

That Sound You Hear

Is the sound of total panic, coming from the PMO. Jesus, the poll numbers must be falling through the floor. We can only hope.

Tuesday Update: And right on time, a new Harris Decima poll has the Liberals and Conservatives tied. Think about that. If Alan Gregg has the two parties tied nationally, the reality is probably much worse. The budget recalibration is probably happening right now. Gone will be the talk of belt tightening and in its place will be a happy story about ponies for all! I bet Harper is out shopping for a new, blue sweater, even as I write this.

QOTD

Don't you wish the Minister had to answer questions in the House about why he is fudging his own weak as piss targets? Too bad the place is closed down.

Let The Finger Pointing Begin

Gordon Brown commenting on the failure of Copenhagen said:
"We must learn lessons from Copenhagen and the tough negotiations that took place. Never again should we face the deadlock that threatened to pull down these talks. Never again should we let a global deal to move towards a greener future be held to ransom by only a handful of countries."
Even if he doesn't mean Canada, isn't sad that it is so damn easy to imagine Harper and his thugs holding the world to ransom?

Dear Jim Prentice

I have a problem with you saying things like this :
“The Copenhagen Accord is an excellent agreement and a very, very positive agreement for Canada,” he told The Canadian Press on Saturday.

“It sits within the principles we put forward as a Canadian government and it essentially achieved all our negotiating objectives.”
You see, I know you achieved your negotiating objectives. That's why it Copenhagen is being described as a failure, around the world, except by the leaders of the big polluters. So, thanks for admitting you helped produce a steaming pile, but I pretty much already knew that.

Well Duh

Self-evident quote of the day:
“We would be extremely opposed to any kind of a carbon tax or some other kind of tax that would result in a significant wealth transfer from our province to any other province or area of the country,” said Saskatchewan Energy Minister Bill Boyd.
Tomorrow, on self-evident quote of the day, we will ask an Afghan drug lord to tell us what he thinks about western drug laws.

Of course, our government doesn't base its entire drug strategy on the opinions of Afghan drug lords, now does it?

Have You Now Or Ever

Been a member of the NDP? It must be close to Halloween. The witch hunt is on. Does it really matter that a protester is also a member of a political party if there is no proof that the party organized the protest? No, but it does make for some salacious "news". Speculation is not proof, it's masturbation. The media is in danger of turning itself into the personification of Lionel Hutz: "Well your honor, I have plenty of hearsay, conjecture and innuendo. Those are TYPES of evidence."

Update: Of course the MSM is limp next to the self-love champs, Liberal bloggers.

Update: Perhaps Liberal bloggers should take a cue from Liberal MP, Paul Szabo, who said this in response to the government's question of privilege :
Mr. Paul Szabo (Mississauga South, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, the references that the hon. House leader has made I am familiar with them but I simply want to point out to the House leader and to you, Mr. Speaker, that this is the party that brought forward a 200 page manual on how to obstruct the work of committees.

A former Deputy Speaker, Bill Blaikie, once said to the House that demonstration and filibustering are part of the democratic process. Section 2 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms gives Canadians the right to express their freedom of expression. That is what happened here.

Mr. Speaker, I would just indicate that freedom of speech is not just for parliamentarians. It is for all Canadians.
I realize Liberal bloggers like to tease the NDP (the psychology of that relationship could fill many textbooks), but they are in danger of looking like the Jay Hill's tool.

The Liberals Have Lost The Plot...Again

Isn't it passing strange that Liberals are spending their time shopping around climate protest conspiracy theories, while at the same time helping the government block C-311?

Deep Cynicism Watch

Greenhouse gas edition. The Tories are going to introduce a reverse NEP (NEP II: Alberta's Revenge). My prediction is they will do so, knowing there will be howls of protest from Ontario and Quebec. They then will throw up their hands and say there is nothing that can be done about climate change. Hat tip to Big City Liberal.

Thank God There Was No Summer Election

Or we would have had this issue come out in the middle of it. Whew, we dodged a bullet there. Thanks Iggy!

Instant Update: Of course, Iggy (Hi, I'm Alberta's new best friend!) may not have wanted to cross swords with Harper over greenhouse gases -- carbon tax don't ya know. Iggy wants to forget it. Harper doesn't.

A Word Of Caution

For those out there who believe things will get better on the climate change file, once there is a new resident in the White House. I share Monbiot's skepticism.
So don’t believe all this nonsense about waiting for the next president to sort it out. This is a much bigger problem than George W Bush. Yes, he is viscerally opposed to tackling climate change. But viscera don’t have much to do with it. Until the American people confront their political funding system, their politicians will keep speaking from the pocket, not the gut.

New Rules

Never play poker with a guy named "Doc". Never draw to an inside straight. Never depend on Europeans, in a negotiation, to stay strong.

The Europeans are gambling on regime change to save all our asses. The Americans and Canadians are gambling that science is just religion with lab coats. It's a tough call to decide who is following the riskier strategy.
