About Coalitions

Have you now or have you ever been a part of a coalition? This is getting completely ridiculous. The Conservatives are trying to turn coalitions into the new communism and Harper into the new Joe McCarthy. See Tailgunner Steve smoke out any nasty coalitionists. It is insane. Coalitions are a legitimate and necessary part of our parliamentary democracy. Just because Harper does not possess the social skill necessary to create one of his own, he is trying to make coalitions sound evil.

The sad fact is, Harper got away with this kind of nonsense last fall. He convinced our home grown "Teabaggers" that they had elected him Prime Minister through direct election and that a coup was being staged to throw him out of power. It was and is complete bullshit, but it appears to be the Conservatives only weapon to save their lousy joke of a government. We, all of us who believe in our constitution, must stand up and denounce the bald faced lies originating from our government, at every turn over the coming months. Otherwise, Harper may very well lie his way back to 24 Sussex Drive.

Update: Chantal Hebert thinks Harper is putting the country at risk. I agree. All you need to do is watch what is going on in the States right now. Once the loons of war are released, whipped up by the lies of demagogues, they are almost impossible to control and re-leash.

Why The Conservatives Deserve To Lose Part 2

I realize this could be construed as piling on, but how arrogant do you have to be to disregard the advice of the people you are apologizing to and then stalk off the stage before they even have a chance to deliver their own (PMO approved) speech? Maybe Harper is getting bored with the whole apology of the week strategy? Maybe he just doesn't think Indo-Canadians matter as much to his re-election as the Japanese and Chinese? Whatever the reason, I have always believed that apologizing for historical grievances is a mug's game. Stephen Harper, that political genius, has other ideas. Let the chickens now come home to roost.

Update: How much do you want to bet that Jim Abbott isn't the only BC Conservative calling for a change in direction? The only question left is whether Harper will take one for the team and change his mind?

Harper's Leadership Problem

If I was an opposition party researcher, I would hang on to this story. If the next election is to be run on "leadership", how could one do better than to use the following line:
"Harper runs into trouble when Harper runs out of script."
If I was in an opposition party's communications shop, I think I would be pushing that line as often as possible, until the writ is dropped. It seems to me, a case may be made that Harper is in fact a control freak for a reason. If Harper is not in total control of events, he quickly loses control of the issue. True leadership requires someone who can improvise when they are not in total control. Harper is just not up to the job.

Update: Thanks to the eagle eyed readers for the edit. :)
